Double Major Programs

Double Major Programs of the Department of Economics

Undergraduate students who meet certain criteria can apply to enroll in double major programs. They receive separate diplomas from the two departments upon successful completion of requirements. General information on double major programs can be found in the Boğaziçi University Double Major Program Internal Regulations (in Turkish).

The curriculum for each double major program can be reached using the tabs on the left side of the page. The first and fourth columns in these tables show the undergraduate curricula for the two departments, whereas the interior two columns list the double major courses to be taken separately for the double major students from the two departments. While 137 credits are required for graduation for Economics majors, the credit requirements for various double major programs vary, as can be seen in the relevant curricula.

Application Information

For Economics students:

All applications are subject to the minimum double major requirements of the Boğaziçi University Double Major Program Internal Regulations. These minimum requirements state that undergraduate students can apply to a double major program at the beginning of their third, fourth, or fifth term if they have achieved a minimum of 3.00 GPA and passed all their courses. The regulations state that individual departments can ask for additional requirements.

As the regulation implies, application requirements may differ across departments. For instance, a department may require a minimum grade point average in some courses the applicant takes or reject applicants who have not taken specific courses. Thus, students are advised to contact the relevant departments directly for information on application procedures.

In order to apply to a department for a double major, one should:

  1. Find out the requirements of this department and fulfill them, and
  2. Apply to the Economics Department simultaneously by filling out the form in the link and carrying out the instructions written on the form. The Economics Department does not require a statement of purpose, other documents, approval signatures, or approval e-mails.

To be admitted to a double major program, a student needs to receive an acceptance from their own department as well as from the department to which they applied. The University Executive Board announces the final acceptance and rejection decisions.

For Students Registered in Other Departments Applying to Economics for a Double Major:

The Economics Department accepts ten students from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and ten from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences to its double major programs. If enrollment is less than these quotas at the end of the Fall applications, the Economics department might accept applications in the Spring Semester..

Application deadlines are announced in the Boğaziçi University Academic Calendar.
