Every academic year, the quotas and the application requirements for the external transfer from universities in Turkey is announced at the University’s website:

APPLICATION

 

Applications are made to the Registrar’s Office at the announced dates. Applicants must have satisfied all the application requirements. For the minimum application requirements, visit the websites given above. 

 

PRE-EVALUATION

 

Only the applications of the candidates who satisfy the requirements below will be evaluated.

  1. i)  Minimum GPA: The applicant must meet the minimum GPA requirement announced. For 2019-2020 academic year Fall term, the minimum GPA requirement is 3.50/4.00. For current requirements:  Yurt İçi Kurumlararası Yatay Geçiş için Başvuru (http://adaylar.boun.edu.tr/tr-TR/Sayfa/YatayGecis)

  1. Economics course requirement: The applicant must have taken at least one economics course per semester (s)he has studied and passed them with a grade at least CC. Two of these courses must be equivalent to EC 101 and EC 102.

 

  1. Mathematics course requirement: The applicant must have taken two calculus courses and passed them with a grade at least CC. These courses must be equivalent to MATH 101 and MATH 102. Mathematics for Economists or Statistics courses does not count in place of Calculus courses. Calculus courses may be taken (if offered) at Boğaziçi Universtiy Summer School (http://www.summer.boun.edu.tr/).

 

Calculus courses include the following topics:

 

Calculus I (Analysis I): Functions, limits, continuity, differentiation and applications, integration, fundamental theorem of calculus, techniques and applications of integration, improper integrals and series, Taylor polynomials, power series, basic transcendental functions.

 

Calculus II (Analysis II): Vector calculus, functions of several variables, directional derivatives, gradient, Lagrange multipliers, multiple integrals and applications, change of variables, coordinate systems, line integrals, Green's theorem, divergence theorem, Stokes’ theorem.

 

  1. Minimum TPA: The Transfer Committee of the Department of Economics determines the transferable courses. Transfer Point Average (TPA) is the weighted average of transferable course grades where each course grade is weighted according to the course credit number. EVALUATION

Applicants who satisfy the minimum requirements must take the written exam on the date announced at the University’s application website listed above. The exam for the rising second year students and the rising third year students are held separately. The applicant may only take the exam held for his/her year. The passing grade for the written exam is 60 out of 100 points. The date of the written exam is announced at the University’s application website listed above.

The written exam for the rising second year transfer applicants consists of the content from the following courses:

EC 101 Principles of Microeconomics: Nature, scope and methods of economics; a general view of the price system; consumer behavior; theory of the firm; illustrations and applications from the Turkish economy.

 

EC 102 Principles of Macroeconomics: National income and its determination; changes in national income, elements of public finance, money and banking, international trade, macroeconomic policy, economic growth and development; illustrations and applications from the Turkish economy.

Math 101 Calculus I: Functions, limits, continuity, differentiation and applications, integration, fundamental theorem of calculus, techniques and applications of integration, improper integrals and series, Taylor polynomials, power series, basic transcendental functions.

 

Math 102 Calculus II: Vector calculus, functions of several variables, directional derivatives, gradient, Lagrange multipliers, multiple integrals and applications, change of variables, coordinate systems, line integrals, Green's theorem and its applications. 

The written exam for the rising third year transfer applicants consists of content from all of the above courses as well as the following courses.

 EC 203 Microeconomics I: Consumer behavior and demand; general equilibrium: pure exchange economy, first and second welfare theorems; production theory and costs; theory of the firm and industry structure; analysis of perfectly competitive markets; market failures: monopoly, externalities, public goods and asymmetric information.

EC 205 Macroeconomics I: Classical, Keynesian and monetarist theories; theories of rational expectations: new classical economics and real business cycle theory, new Keynesian economics. 

 

ADMISSION

 

Candidates who meet the minimum requirements and pass the written exam are evaluated in accordance Boğaziçi Üniversitesi Lisans Programlarına Yatay Geçiş Yönetmeliği” (Transfer Rules) (https://www.boun.edu.tr/tr_TR/Content/Ogrenciler/Ogrenci_Isleri/Yonetmelik_ve_Ic_Tuzukler/Yatay_Gecis_Yonetmeligi) and with the criteria determined by the Senate and accepted according to the allocated quota.
